TYPOGRAPHIC INSTALLATION

Theconcept of our work was first inspired by the quote,
“AllWork No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy”.
StuartBrown, in a article in New York Times: “Taking Play Seriously” in 2008,
sharedhow life without play is not much of a life. Play has more benefits in
ourlives than what we thought we knew. The moving of limbs and increase in
heartbeatpromote healthier living and more creative thinking, adding joy and
laughterin our lives. Our group feels that we all have a natural, even child-like
instinctto have fun; an instinct which, unfortunately, is buried by things life
throwsat us. In Singapore’s context, it is the fast pace of life, stressful workload
andexpectations that hinder this human character of ours from surfacing. We
haveconstructed a tangible, typographic series of 4 swings forming the word
“P-L-A-Y”,which physically invites people to interact with the work by sitting
onthe swings and having fun. With the swaying of swings and laughter that
rings, the idea of “PLAY” comes alive.
